A section is a 2D slice of a point cloud and serves as a tool for creating floor plans, site plans and elevations.

To create a section, the user defines a cross-section plane and a distance tolerance. A section is generated from points within the tolerance to the plane by projecting them to the plane.

To start drawing on a section, activate Snap to Section and Snap to Main Plane . Then sketch an outline using one of the drawing tools. The drawing process can further be assisted by our automatic fitting algorithms. For this, select the section and the drawing, and click .

A user may want to export a section to a DXF file and perform the drawing in third-party software. But be careful with this approach. Third-party applications have issues with opening DXF files containing too many entities. If you insist on this approach, we recommend choosing a small distance tolerance to create sparse sections.
